I was backpacking around New Zealand in 2003. It was a drastic reaction to working as a Excel monkey in investment banking after graduating — for oil & gas companies of all things, in Houston.  I was trying to go as far as I could from civilization: me and my pack. I had a pot, some propane and a pair of good boots — all that I needed to be off the grid. About two months in, somewhere around Dunedin, I got an email.   Hope you are having an ass-kicking time and are making nice with the sheep. - Christen To which I replied: I’m having a blast climbing mountans and kayaking and tramping and hitching. BTW, I am making nice with the sheep and cows, thank you very much. - Josh And that was it. I ended my trip (a month later) and moved to NYC. And here we are.
